IIM Udaipur welcomes the Fourth Batch of the flagship PGP Programme – Class of 2014-16

Indian Institute of Management Udaipur held the registration and commencement session of the fourth batch of its flagship PGP Programme for the Class of 2014-16. A total of 116 students registered in the new batch comprising of a diverse mix of students from different academic backgrounds and work experiences.

The students were given a grand welcome to make them feel the distinguished hospitality of IIM Udaipur. The welcome event was orchestrated by the second year PGP students and cheered up the students and their parents with the traditional Rajasthani style welcome.

Post the registration process, the students received a welcome address from Prof. Janat Shah, DirectorIIMU. Prof. Shah welcomed the students and congratulated them for their efforts which went in achieving the feat of joining an IIM. He addressed the students about the two year transformational journey which the programme offers along with the things which differentiate IIMU with specially crafted pedagogical initiatives like Entrepreneurship / Intrapreneurship, Analytics, Immersion and Social Responsibility.

Prof. Shah was joined by Mr. Akhilesh Joshi, CEO, Hindustan Zinc Ltd. as the Chief Guest of the Orientation Programme. Mr. Joshi spoke to the students about his journey during his stint at HZL for 30 years. He briefed the students about how the management education will lead to their learning which will help them throughout their career. He specially mentioned students with the guidelines which will help the students to excel in their respective fields with focusing on discipline, passion, excellence, dedication and hard work.

The students keenly listened and discussed their ambitions with Mr. Joshi. The students will be going through a week long Orientation Programme with sessions on Entrepreneurship by Prof. Sunil Handa, FacultyIIMA and Founder, Eklavya Foundation, Ice-Breaking activities and workshops on Case Study Methodology by Prof. L. S. Murthy, FacultyIIMB.

Things which differentiate IIM Udaipur – Entrepreneurship!

The PGP office also aids the strengthening of the entrepreneurial space of students by introduction of subjects like Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, Courses of Independent Study etc. which promote students to learn the trade while integrating the lessons into their academic grading and evaluation. Placement Holidays are also provided to students along with seed capital help for incubation of ventures and deferred back up placements offers so that students can independently and dedicatedly work on their business models without losing on their other career options.

Several students driven activities have been running out of campus and in the areas in & around the vicinity of local community. SakshamThe Entrepreneurship Club of IIMU promotes the culture of entrepreneurship through the strata of its events and activities like Ideate Start-up Workshop, B-Plan Competitions, Live Projects et al. The success of its flagship event, PrarambhThe 32 Hour Start Up Challenge, a one of its kind event in India and the award of Best Debutant Entrepreneurship Cell in the North Zone given by National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) showcase the testimony of the excellent efforts put by the club in sustaining the culture of entrepreneurship in the campus. Prominent tie ups with bodies like NEN, The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), Rajasthan Angel Investors Network (RAIN), Microsoft Ventures, 91 Spring Board, Cynapta and Start-Up Oasis among others are increasingly establishing entrepreneurship as a firm pillar of the institute.

Things which differentiate IIM Udaipur – Team Work!

Climbing the ladders of a managerial career requires one to be cinch with team working abilities. Beginning from management trainees and proceeding through various phases of middle management and senior management roles, responsible managers are expected to work and deliver according to best of the capabilities of the team with which they are associated.

IIMU follows the pedagogy in the academic and non-academic student affairs in such a manner that the best of team working skills are inculcated in the students within the first three months itself of their stay at the institute. The academic programmes of the institute are launched with the first week entirely dedicated to team building workshops. IIM Udaipur has adopted case based learning methodology and a significant importance lies in the class participation and case discussions, hence providing the students of a feel of simulation of real life complex managerial situations.

The student clubs and committees and their plethora of vibrant activities in the institute complement the team building process. These bodies maintain autonomy in their selection process and hence bypass a large number of conventional parameters to form best teams aligned with their outcomes. The challenges posed to the students prepare them in honing their skills not confined to academic pursuits.
