Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur in association with the Harvard Business School Club of India will host the first Inclusive India Forum on 26th July, 2014 at IIM Udaipur campus.

Inclusive India Forum will be attended by stalwarts from corporate and social sectors. Confirmed delegates include 25 Harvard Business School Alumni, 25 Corporate Social Responsibility Heads from various companies and Founders & Senior Functionaries of 40 NGOs from across India. Inclusive India Forum would be the first event of its kind organized in India, where different stakeholders from corporate organizations and NGOs would gather on one platform and discuss ways in which partnerships can be created in the development management space for the larger benefit of society.

ColloquiuM! with Mr. Romi Mahajan of Microsoft

MarClanThe Marketing Club of IIM Udaipur organized the first Guest Speaker Session for this year of its continuing series, ColloquiuM!. The talk in this session was delivered by Mr. Romi Mahajan. Mr. Mahajan is a world renowned Marketing and Creative Thought Leader. His credentials include working as a Director of Sales and Strategy for Digital Marketing Platform Group at Microsoft and Founder-President of KKM Group et al. He was accompanied by Mr. Kshitij Jain of Advaiya Solutions Pvt. Ltd..

Mr. Mahajan spoke extensively on the topic “The Marketing Panorama – Reclaiming Marketing from ROI Zealtory“. Coined to what he called as “The ROMI TRAP”, he elaborated on how companies’ drive towards measuring and quantifying the return on marketing investment and advent of new mediums and platforms like digital and social media have been cannibalising the culture of Marketing. According to him the intuition and creativity which led to many successful and innovative marketing strategies/campaigns formulation have been compromised by the use of pseudo-science in modifying the techniques of Marketing.

The session was an interactive one and the students in attendance put in some really interesting aspects to the discussion throwing concepts backed up with examples from real world. The effects of advertisements in marketing communications as they were showcased in the traditional media in the television, their nostalgia factor and the social/digital media wave using that to encash the same effects simply took the discussions to stratum.

The various Clubs and Committees at IIMU keep on organizing such sessions round the year to aid students in picking up the nuances of management from the industry that the speakers represent in addition to the subjects’ knowledge gained in the academic curriculum pedagogy.

IIM Udaipur welcomes the Fourth Batch of the flagship PGP Programme – Class of 2014-16

Indian Institute of Management Udaipur held the registration and commencement session of the fourth batch of its flagship PGP Programme for the Class of 2014-16. A total of 116 students registered in the new batch comprising of a diverse mix of students from different academic backgrounds and work experiences.

The students were given a grand welcome to make them feel the distinguished hospitality of IIM Udaipur. The welcome event was orchestrated by the second year PGP students and cheered up the students and their parents with the traditional Rajasthani style welcome.

Post the registration process, the students received a welcome address from Prof. Janat Shah, DirectorIIMU. Prof. Shah welcomed the students and congratulated them for their efforts which went in achieving the feat of joining an IIM. He addressed the students about the two year transformational journey which the programme offers along with the things which differentiate IIMU with specially crafted pedagogical initiatives like Entrepreneurship / Intrapreneurship, Analytics, Immersion and Social Responsibility.

Prof. Shah was joined by Mr. Akhilesh Joshi, CEO, Hindustan Zinc Ltd. as the Chief Guest of the Orientation Programme. Mr. Joshi spoke to the students about his journey during his stint at HZL for 30 years. He briefed the students about how the management education will lead to their learning which will help them throughout their career. He specially mentioned students with the guidelines which will help the students to excel in their respective fields with focusing on discipline, passion, excellence, dedication and hard work.

The students keenly listened and discussed their ambitions with Mr. Joshi. The students will be going through a week long Orientation Programme with sessions on Entrepreneurship by Prof. Sunil Handa, FacultyIIMA and Founder, Eklavya Foundation, Ice-Breaking activities and workshops on Case Study Methodology by Prof. L. S. Murthy, FacultyIIMB.

The world is getting smaller and the distances between the nations are reducing. The economies of the world are integrating at a faster pace and there is a critical need for managers in the industry who have an understanding of global business practices, social values, philosophies and cultures. Dual Degree PGP for Executives in Global Supply Chain Management: IIM Udaipur and Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management have designed a dual degree programme to cater to the present global industry requirements and to equip the executives with skills to deal with complex supply chains across the world. IIMU’s students brush shoulders with students from Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP), Mexico and Tianjin University, China besides the students from Purdue. At the end of the program, students are offered a PGDM from IIM Udaipur and a MS from Purdue University, USA in Global Supply Chain Management. The nuances of Supply Chain Management theories and international business techniques and practices help the students to assimilate the learning experiences of studying overseas and honing their skills for the working arrangements in India & abroad.

2. Student Exchange Programme (STEP): The student exchange program at IIM Udaipur aims at giving the students a global exposure academically and culturally. The students spend a term of their course in globally acclaimed universities of Germany and France. This leap offers an adaptation to a bouquet of offerings like a broadened outlook, leadership attributes, team working, divergent mind set, keen eye for detail, communication skills, emotional maturity, healthy appetite for risk taking and decision making abilities. 4. International Summer Internships: The highlight of IIM Udaipur’s summer internship placements have been the international internships offered by companies located in UAE and Qatar. This is a continuation of the process where in a span of two months, students get to work in a global business environment in an economy different than the Indian environment. Global Business Project (GBP): GBP is a unique action-based learning course spanning across four months, February to May, wherein, under each project, 5-6 students from across geographies work on general consulting and strategic problems of clients under the faculty guidance applying their functional, cross-cultural, foreign language and virtual teamwork skills towards focused, compelling, measurable and actionable deliverables. Many companies which have provided projects are household names, such as P&G (China and Brazil), GE Health Care (Brazil), Eli Lilly (Brazil), CITIBANK (China), Google, SAP, PepsiCo and others. IIM Udaipur is a member of this prestigious consortium along with 12 global universities namely UNC-Chapel Hill, Columbia, George Washington University, Lingnan College, Miami, Maryland, Purdue, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, University of Connecticut, University of Wisconsin and UNISINOS.

6. Joint Research and Faculty Exchange: Faculty Groups working together on collaborative research projects is another channel for engagement which adds a dash of benefits in increasing the international exposure factor of those associated with the institute. The Center for Development Management (CDM) at IIMU has a MoU with Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy for joint research and faculty exchange. CDM is a research center that seeks to address development challenges in India by bringing management skills and social science knowledge, together in order to enable qualitative social transformation through the Summer School Programme.
