Dhandha- Chase your Dream !!

Entrepreneurship as such is a dream. Even one who has no skills and no wit, dreams of it. Yet, the feeling is one that escapes many. To be able to run a brand new business, especially one that you have envisioned and developed isn’t something everyone gets a chance to do. However everyone should give it at least one shot.

IIM Udaipur since its inception has given special incentives and support to those who wish to venture on their own and create businesses. Keeping up with the tradition, Saksham- The E-Cell of IIM Udaipur created the concept of Dhandha. The event was conducted on 11/07/2015.

Dhandha was a fun filled event created with the intention of promoting entrepreneurship on campus. Its main ploy was to let people chase dreams or small scale ideas that could be scaled up later in an advent of getting the feel of what running a business venture feels like. 50 students participated and were fragmented into six teams. Each was then given Rs.400 and a few hours to do what they wanted to. Where some made and sold fruit ice creams, others went to the extent of ironing clothes. Some even decided to trade in consumables and in the spirit of the game it was allowed.

The teams were then judged on the basis of not only the profit made but also the scalability of the idea, innovation and the sustainability of the model. It was pleasant to know that nearly all, even those who had just barely done the logistics had an idea of how to scale up and what would be required to do so. The event also brought the members of the teams closer to each other and in all was a success. Finally the team that won was “Dhandhaneurs”.

The main reasons the judges chose them were their innovation and relevance to the concept and the situation, rather the context. Second the marketing gimmicks as well as the ‘on the spot’ learnings displayed from customer feedbacks were also taken into picture by them. These qualities, the judges found were crucial to running a business. Apart from this the ‘Most Creative award’ was given to ‘The Lalas’.

All in all, the participants enjoyed a lot during the event and got a glimpse of the criticalities involved in running even a small business. We admire the enthusiasm of all PGP1’s and hope the spirit of entrepreneurship keeps growing.
